One
of those places we always talked about going to but never seemed to be able to
find the time was the Outer Banks in North Carolina.
So in March of 2005 we decided to spend a week in North Carolina
combining a chance to visit friends as well as the opportunity to explore the
Outer Banks.
We
chose to stay at a quaint little B & B called the Inn at Kimbeeba.
This provided us with a great base from which to explore the Outer Banks,
as well as Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge, and Alligator National Park.
With the added perk of being set up with some of the best breakfasts and
scones we’ve ever had.
Upon
leaving the Outer Banks we headed South to the Croatan National Forest to see
the endangered Red-cockaded Woodpecker. From there we headed to Raleigh where we
spent some time with friends of ours Marla, Barry and the newest addition to
their family, Charlotte. We had met
Barry and Marla while traveling in Africa back in 2002 and had the opportunity
to catch up with them in Washington DC again in 2003.
From
Raleigh we were off to Charlotte to visit Chris, Jen and the newest addition to
their family Nicholas. Chris and
Jen had had enough of the New England winters and high cost of living and thus
decided Charlotte was the place to be. Everyday
they wake up and look outside their window upon the 5th fairway they
don’t seem to regret their decision – Go Figure.
